"Friendship Turned Crime: Six Arrested in Fulbari Kidnapping Plot"
In a case where friendship turned into a crime, six individuals were arrested for their involvement in a kidnapping plot.
Lakshmi Gurung, from Jhapa district in Nepal, had recently returned from Saudi Arabia and made friends with Pawan Rai from Assam. However, this friendship took a sinister turn when Rai and five accomplices decided to abduct Gurung.
On August 8, Gurung was lured to Siliguri and kidnapped, with the kidnappers demanding an 8-lakh-rupee ransom. Gurung informed his family about the ransom demand. The kidnappers instructed the family to deliver the money to Fulbari on Sunday night.
Gurung’s family reported the incident to the NJP police. The police quickly set up surveillance at a hotel in Fulbari. When the kidnappers arrived to collect the ransom, the police arrested the six suspects: Suraj Seva and Dinesh Seva from Kurseong Shimulbari, Rewas Pradhan from Mirik, and Manoj Thakur and Christopher Hembram from Assam.
The suspects were presented in court on Monday and are now in police custody for further investigation.
