"Mayor Gautam Deb Inaugurates First Phase of ₹511 Crore 'Amrut 2.0' Water Project to Resolve Siliguri's Water Crisis"

In an effort to address the drinking water shortage in Siliguri, Mayor Gautam Deb has launched the first phase of the 'Amrut 2.0' water project at Gajoldoba. The ceremony took place on Friday near Hawa Mahal.

Mayor Deb was joined by Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, Municipal Corporation Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, MMIC Dulal Dutta, as well as councillors and engineers from the Municipal Corporation.

According to reports, the entire project is expected to cost around ₹511 crores under the 'Amrut 2.0' scheme. The foundation for the first phase, costing about ₹204 crores, was laid today. This phase involves constructing pipelines to transport water from Gajoldoba to Fulbari, where it will be purified and supplied to the residents of Siliguri.

Mayor Deb mentioned that the first phase includes laying a 28-kilometer pipeline. He also said that the tender process for the second phase is already complete, and he hopes that the work will begin before the Puja festival.

Additionally, Mayor Deb said that work on the Fulbari water disposal center is progressing well and is expected to be finished before the Puja. Once the Amrut project is completed, Siliguri residents will have access to clean drinking water.
