"Vandalism of Statues in Siliguri Sparks Concern, Leaders Demand Action"
An attempt to damage statues of famous figures in Siliguri's Ward 47 has raised concern among locals. On Wednesday, Mayor Gautam Deb and Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar visited the area to examine the damage.
The incident took place late on Monday night, with reports saying that unknown individuals attempted to damage ten statues near Pati Colony. The vandalism was noticed by residents on Tuesday morning, sparking outrage. Ward Councillor Amar Ananda Das immediately reported the matter to Pradhan Nagar police station.
Visiting the site on Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Deb condemned the act as "very shameful," emphasizing that such incidents deserve strong opposition. He also confirmed that the Municipal Corporation has contacted the Police Commissioner to request a quick investigation and to identify those involved.
Siliguri’s MLA Shankar Ghosh also visited the scene, voicing his concerns and calling for increased security in the city. During his visit, Ghosh took time to speak with nearby school students, sharing insights on the importance of the notable figures represented by the statues.
