*Empowering Minds, Ensuring Safety: A Seminar cum Panel Discussion on "Whither the Safety of Women?" at Siliguri Model High School (Sr. Sec.)*

 

"In every street and every lane
Let no woman feel the pain
A world where safety’s not a fight
Where day and night she walks in light."

In a world advancing rapidly in so many ways, the safety and security of women remain critical issues that demand our continuous attention and action. With this context, a seminar cum panel discussion was organized on 6th September at Siliguri Model High School (Sr. Sec.) to raise awareness among the masses and foster gender sensitization.

The event, held in the Lecture Theatre, welcomed a group of eminent panelists including Shri Soumen Nag Sir, Dr. Kaushik Bhattacharya Sir,  Dr. Neela Bhattacharya Madam, Dr. Arundhati Das Gupta Madam, Shri. Parag Biswas Sir and Dr. S. S. Agarwal Sir who graced the discussion with their presence and insights. A large number of parents, guardians, students, and teachers attended the event.

The program commenced with the offering of khada and memento by Principal Sir Dr. S S  Agarwal and Rector Ma'am Mrs. R.Bindu Agarwal and Vice Principal Ma'am Mrs Shikha Banik,  to honor all the Esteemed  doctors and distinguished dignitaries.

 Before the discussion, a poetic dance performance by one of the talented Modelites symbolized the day’s theme, setting a thoughtful and reflective tone for the session.
 As a symbolic gesture to honor women, the audience turned on their mobile phone flashlights, illuminating the room with a show of solidarity and respect.

Each panelist shared valuable insights on the issue of women’s safety, addressing the societal barriers women face daily. They discussed ways to create a safer environment and nurtured a mindset of empathy and respect within society. The panelists not only discussed the crucial issue of women’s safety but also touched upon broader themes such as gender equality, mutual respect for each other, and the importance of respecting every person in society. The discussion emphasized how vital it is to foster a culture of empathy and unity in our communities.

Our Principal Sir, Dr. S. S. Agarwal concluded the event with an enlightening address, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to ensure safety for all.

Following this an open floor discussion and questionnaire round on women's safety was conducted with the  parents , students and teachers .  They were also told to share their thoughts. The audience actively participated.

At the closal of the seminar, our music teacher, Mrs. Sarasi Dutta, gave a heartfelt song performance that resonated with the theme of the day. The event concluded with a powerful slogan raised by all participants, symbolizing a collective commitment to a safer and more respectful society for all.

The students of Siliguri Model High School expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such an important and thought-provoking discussion, which touched on a concern that affects us all. 

It was definitely a day to reflect, learn, and commit to making a positive change. The insights gained and the awareness raised in the seminar held at S.M.H.S.  will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on everyone present, inspiring us to work towards a safer and more inclusive society for all.
