**Siliguri: Elderly man allegedly killed over extortion demand by youths linked to Trinamool labor union; one arrested.**

 In a shocking incident of alleged extortion and assault, NJP police have arrested one individual in connection with the death of an elderly man. Reports suggest that a group of young men, allegedly associated with the Trinamool Congress labor union, demanded INR 500 from the victim. When he refused, they reportedly assaulted him, inflicting serious injuries that led to his death.

The police, acting within 24 hours, arrested the suspect, identified as Md. Shamshad, and have launched a thorough investigation to determine if others were involved. 

The case has sparked widespread discussions in Siliguri, with accusations that the assailants were under the protection of the ruling party’s labor union. However, no official statement has been issued by Trinamool Congress leaders. A labor union representative claims that all relevant details have been provided to the police, who have assured that appropriate action will be taken.
