All India Lawn Tennis Men's Tournament Started

The AITA (All India Lawn Tennis Association) Men's Tournament organized by Siliguri Gymkhana Club started today morning on 1st January ,2024 featuring 1 lakh as prize money. The Tournament will be held till 5th January 2024. It witnessed a participation of over 30 talented players from various states, including Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Telangana, and West Bengal including two players representing the host club. Shri Ajay Kumar IPS, ADG & IG North Bengal, was the chief guest and inaugurated the tournament .Roshan Kant Ghising, Director of Siliguri Gymkhana Club, expressed confidence that the tournament would increase the morale of local players. The tournament saw some surprising upsets, including unseeded player Sharaniyan from Tamil Nadu defeating the 461st-ranked Sharat Srinivas. Another upset featured Arnab Kapoor from Delhi overcoming Swastik Pradhan from Odisha (ranked 238). Prakash Sarran from Karnataka secured a victory against Avishek Agarwal from Delhi, while West Bengal's Mayank Tiwari defeated the 462nd-ranked Digvijay Singh from Madhya Pradesh.The tournament, supported by the Bengal Tennis Association, is officiated by chief referee Mr. Joy Mukherjee, who traveled from Kolkata for the event. The matches promise to showcase the high standards of tennis and contribute to the sport's growth in the region.
