The Darjeeling District Congress organized a significant rally in Siliguri on Saturday, demanding strict action against those involved in the recent R.G. Kar Medical College controversy. The rally, led by State Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, began at Baghajatin Park and wound through various city streets, eventually concluding at Air View More.
During his interaction with the press, Chowdhury criticized the Chief Minister’s approach, particularly her presence at the junior doctors' protest site. He remarked that the Chief Minister had no choice but to "bow down to truth." Additionally, Chowdhury called for the dissolution of all Patient Welfare Committees in medical institutions, expressing dissatisfaction with how the situation was managed.
Chowdhury further emphasized that from the outset, his primary request to the Chief Minister was to directly communicate with the protesting doctors. He stated that it was her responsibility as the state leader to address their concerns. Instead, he accused her of using diversionary tactics rather than dealing with the issues head-on. He concluded that the protesters’ persistence and integrity had prevailed, forcing the Chief Minister to step back in fear of public backlash.
