The Darjeeling Himalayan railways is set to resume a 17 km evening ride from Siliguri junction to Rongtong called jungle tea safari. The services will be operational from Christmas or New year on the demand of the tourist said the railway officials.
Northeast Frontier Railway, Katihar division DRM SK Chowdhary said the evening services were closed following less demand of the tourists .However with the chirostmas and new year around the corner we have decided to resume the services.
" Keeping in view with the upcoming festivities and tourist footfall we have decided to resume the evening services from NJP to Rongtong a 17 km ride or from NJP to Sukna a 11 Km ride as per the demand of the tourist", said Chowdhury.

“ Our Ghoom festival was successful, our motive was to make train services popular and we are successful in that. For the first time we have achieved operating profit. We are also modernising the stations. We are also planning for night services from NJP to attract more tourists. Plans are there to operate more new services to attract more tourists”, said Gupta.
