Earthquake of Magnitude 4.4 Hits Sikkim; No Casualties Reported
Siliguri, Aug 09, 2024 — An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck the Himalayan state of Sikkim in northeast India at 6:57 AM local time on Friday morning. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the quake was centered near Soreng at a depth of approximately 10 km.
The tremors were felt across Sikkim and north Bengal, and the effects were also reported in neighboring regions, including parts of Nepal, Bhutan, and China. There have been no reports of casualties or significant damage as a result of the quake.
