Fake Aadhaar Card Racket Busted on Indo-Nepal Border, One Arrested

Fake Aadhaar Card Racket Busted Near Indo-Nepal Border, One Arrested

Police have busted a fake Aadhaar card racket operating along the Indo-Nepal border, resulting in the arrest of one person, Sonai Sarkar.

The racket was reportedly creating fake Aadhaar cards for Nepali citizens in exchange for money. Acting on a tip, a team from Kharibari Police Station, led by Naxalbari SDPO Neha Jain, raided an online center in Badra Jote, Batasi, Kharibari. During the operation, police seized three fake Aadhaar cards, several documents, and equipment, including computers, hard drives, and printers.

Sonai Sarkar, who was taken into custody, was presented in Siliguri Court on Saturday. Police sources stated that Sarkar had previously been arrested on October 2, 2023, in Phansidewa for assisting a Bangladeshi citizen in obtaining a fake Indian ID.

At a press briefing, SDPO Neha Jain confirmed that the raid was conducted based on confidential information. A few Nepali citizens were allegedly at the center to collect fake Aadhaar cards, which were being made for charges ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 each. The fake IDs were likely intended to help people cross the border.

The SDPO cautioned Nepali and Bangladeshi citizens against falling prey to such scams. Police are now seeking Sarkar’s remand to identify other suspects involved in the network.
