Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011, has passed away at the age of 80. His death was announced by his son, Suchitra Bhattacharya, on Thursday morning.
Bhattacharya had been battling health issues for several years, particularly Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Bhattacharya's tenure as Chief Minister marked the end of the 34-year Left Front rule in West Bengal. His passing has led to an outpouring of grief from political leaders across the spectrum. Current Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with other notable figures, has expressed deep condolences for his loss.
