On Tuesday, several environmental organizations submitted a memorandum to the Siliguri Police Commissioner, asking for action on this issue.
According to reports, waste from Sikkim has been dumped in the open in the Nepali Basti area of Siliguri over the past few days. Local residents stopped several trucks carrying the waste on Monday and alerted the police. Officers from the Ambari Outpost then arrived and seized the trucks.
Environmental groups are worried about this practice and formally submitted a request on Tuesday, calling for action from authorities. They also plan to inform the State Pollution Control Board, the District Magistrate of Jalpaiguri, and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).
