Siliguri, 13th May 2023: Chennai based Gleneagles Global Health City (GGHC) have launchedtheir Liver Clinic and their Regional Information Centre in Siliguri, West Bengal in association with Fortune Vive Healthcare. This would be the 20th Liver Clinic that Gleneagles Global Health City has opened across India in the recent past and the fourth in North-East India.

Dr P D Bhutia,Director, Vive Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Siliguri and Dr Mettu Srinivas Reddy, Director, Liver Transplanation and HPB Surgery, GGHC, Chennai inaugurated the clinic along withMr Bhaskar Reddy, Head, Corporate Relations, GGHC, Chennai.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Mettu Srinivas Reddy, Director, Liver Transplantation and HPB Surgery, said “We are excited to be bringing our unique model of Liver care to the remote parts of West Bengal combining our renowned experts and technological advances and clinical expertise. We will provide our patients with highest quality care that we are known for,”.

Dr P D Bhutia, Director, Vive Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Siliguri said, “We have a long association with Gleneagles Global Health City. We have always recommended our patients to get advance treatment for their liver ailments at Gleneagles Global, Chennai and we felt this can be made more beneficial for our patients by the Hospital experts coming down here and screening them,”.

Gleneagles Global will have their doctors consulting at the Liver Clinic in Siliguri on a monthly basis, screening patients and sensitizing the community at large. Based on the Doctors recommendations, any need for a surgery or for advanced treatment, those patients only will be asked to travel to Chennai.

“There are nearly 10 lakh people who are diagnosed with liver diseases every year in India. India needs atleast 25000 liver transplantations in a year whereas, we are barely touching 2500 transplantations every year. It is a growing problem with many patients unaware of a failing liver till the last stage. The symptoms of a liver disease is not shown nor known till a patient comes for a medical checkup. Liver diseases generally occur due to alcoholic consumption, virus, jaundice, and obesity. If left unchecked, there can be permanent damage and can be fatal too,” said Dr. Mettu Srinivas Reddy.

“It is due to the lack of awareness that we have patients coming to us at the last stage. Liver diseases are preventable, curable, and manageable if caught early. All that one has to do is go for a regular medical health checkup. Even the Government can do a lot more to create an awareness amongst the poor and needy,” he added.

“With the launch of our outpatient services at Siliguri, thousands of sick patients in and around West Bengal and other parts of North-East need not travel to Chennai anymore for treatment. Furthermore, patients who have undergone surgery at Gleneagles Chennai, need not travel for their post-surgery reviews to Chennai as our Doctors would be there every month,” said Mr Bhaskar Reddy, Head, Corporate Relations, GGHC, Chennai
