MP Raju Bista Demands Investigation into PMAY Irregularities in Kurseong Municipality
Member of Parliament Raju Bista visited Kurseong Municipality on March 1, 2025, to show solidarity with citizens who have been denied benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY) urban housing scheme.
Bista alleged that despite meeting eligibility requirements, several beneficiaries have not received sanctioned funds, resulting in halted construction. Some families were forced to borrow money to complete their homes, while others remain incomplete, causing significant financial distress.
The MP also claimed that Kurseong Municipality officials demanded an unofficial payment of ₹25,000 from beneficiaries to avail PMAY benefits. Additionally, Bista stated that deserving poor families were excluded from the scheme, while those with political connections were unfairly included.
Bista has requested the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development to investigate the matter and take legal action against those responsible. He vowed to continue raising his voice against the alleged corruption, stating that snatching money meant for the poor is a direct attack on people's rights.¹
