Raju Bista Joins Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Celebrating 61st Raising Day of SSB

Siliguri, Darjeeling: On the occasion of the 61st Raising Day of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Darjeeling MP Raju Bista joined Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the SSB Frontier Headquarters in Ranidanga, Siliguri.

Speaking at the event, Raju Bista highlighted the crucial role played by the SSB in the Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars regions, which are home to the strategically significant “Chicken Neck” corridor. He emphasized the SSB’s responsibility in securing India’s open borders with Nepal and Bhutan, nations that share a deep historical, cultural, and civilizational connection with India.

"The SSB is not just tasked with protecting our borders but also plays a vital role in strengthening India’s ties with Nepal and Bhutan by fostering goodwill and cultural exchange," Bista said.

The SSB has been guarding the India-Nepal border since 2001 and the India-Bhutan border since 2004. The force is responsible for patrolling 2,450 km of open borders under challenging geographical and climatic conditions, including mountainous terrains, dense forests, and rivers.

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah lauded the SSB’s contribution to national security and regional stability. "The Sashastra Seema Bal has played a key role in securing our borders with friendly nations such as Nepal and Bhutan. Its alertness and presence have ensured a sense of security in the Siliguri Corridor and the Eastern region," he remarked.

He also praised the SSB’s initiatives to preserve and promote the culture and heritage of border villages, stating, "The SSB has done a commendable job by connecting the culture, language, and heritage of border villages of India with the mainstream of the country. This initiative strengthens the bond between the nation and its border communities."

Raju Bista extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the present and former officers and jawans of the SSB, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifices for the nation.
