Man Arrested in Siliguri with Gold Worth Over a Crore in Smuggling Bust
Siliguri, November 12, 2024:The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized gold worth over a crore in a significant anti-smuggling operation in Siliguri. Acting on a tip-off, the officials detained a man, Tapas Saha, on charges of gold smuggling.
Reports state that Tapas Saha was apprehended by the DRI during a raid in the Sitalkuchi area of Cooch Behar district. He was then taken to Siliguri for further questioning. Upon a thorough search at the DRI office in Siliguri, officials found 1.746 kilograms of gold biscuits in his trouser pocket, valued at approximately ₹1,35,48,960.
The gold, allegedly smuggled from Bangladesh, was intended for distribution within India. Following the court proceedings on Tuesday, Saha was placed under judicial custody.
