France Set Up Paraguay Clash as Mbappé Continues Record-Breaking World Cup Journey

France produced another commanding display at the FIFA World Cup 2026, defeating Sweden 3-0 in the Round of 32 to book their place in the Round of 16.

Sweden struggled to respond after the break, and France doubled their advantage in the 53rd minute. Olise produced a brilliant through ball that split the Swedish defence, allowing Bradley Barcola to fire home and make it 2-0.

The French side continued to dominate possession and chances, with Olise at the heart of almost every dangerous attack. The winger was rewarded with another assist in the 74th minute when he delivered a superb pass for Mbappé, who curled a composed finish into the net to seal the victory.

The two goals moved Mbappé level with Lionel Messi on six goals in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Golden Boot race. The France captain also increased his overall World Cup tally to 18 goals, just one behind Messi's all-time World Cup record of 19.

Sweden, featuring attacking stars Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga, struggled to create meaningful opportunities against a disciplined French side and were ultimately outclassed by one of the tournament favourites.
