Shri Soorya Kant Sharma, Inspector General of North Bengal Frontier retired on Superannuation on 31st March 2025 (AN) after an illustrious career spanning almost four decades in service to the nation. A distinguished leader, he has played a crucial role in strengthening border security in North Bengal frontier and fostering overall operational excellence within the force.
Shri Soorya Kant Sharma, Inspector General joined BSF in the Year 1987. The Officer has served with SPG and also given security as Director Security Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha apart from holding high positions in BSF. He had taken over the charge of IG Frontier Headquarter BSF North Bengal on 14th August 2023. He has been at the forefront of numerous strategic operations and policy initiatives aimed at fortifying border management in the North Bengal region. His tenure as IG witnessed a significant transformation in security protocols and inter-agency coordination.
Under his leadership, several modern surveillance systems were installed. He spearheaded multiple infrastructure projects to improve life of Jawans at border. The upgradation of border outposts, establishment of new check-posts and enhancement of road connectivity in critical areas have bolstered the force’s mobility and reduced response time. Under his guidance Frontier launched several community outreach programs like Vocational training for border villagers, medical camps, and educational initiatives for children in remote areas.
A ceremonial farewell was held at the Frontier Headquarters BSF Kadamtala, Siliguri, to honour of his unwavering service.
