STATE LEVEL SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS AND ENVIRONMENT EXHIBITION STARTED AT DGSSS

 

Gangtok : State Level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition (SLSMEE) for Children 2022-23 started today at Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School. The exhibition is organised by SCERT Sikkim in collaboration with National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. The theme for this year exhibition is “Technology and Toys”. There are seven sub themes for the competition – Advancement in Information and Communication Technology, Eco Friendly Material, Health and Cleanliness, Transport and Innovation, Environmental Concerns, Historical Development with Current Innovation and Mathematics for Us. 
The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri D C Nepal, Secretary, Education Department, who was also the Chief Guest for the day. The programme also had the presence of Shri K C Gyatso, Director, SCERT, Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari, Joint Director, SCERT, Shri Suraj Bir Singh, Joint Director, SCERT, Mrs. Anita Kaphley, Principal, DGSSS,  Faculties and staff of SCERT, students and escort teachers of participating schools and visiting students from nearby schools. 
Dr. Ghanashyam Bastola, Project Manager and Head, The Mountain Institute of India (TMI), Dr. Bhakta Kunwar, Associate Professor, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College (NBBGC), Tadong, Dr. Bikash Sharma, Associate Professor, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Rangpo were present as judges for the 3 days event. 
During the inaugural session held in the forenoon, Shri K C Gyatso, Director SCERT, welcomed the guests and the participants and expressed his happiness over the participation of the students even from far flung and remote rural schools. Shri D C Nepal, in his address opined that this type of event will provide a  platform to the students to showcase their innovative ideas that could be taken up by different industry for larger benefit of the society. He offered his best wishes to the participating students and declared the exhibition open. 
Out of 60 schools invited for the exhibition, 41 government schools and 9 private schools participated on the first day of the exhibition. 
Top 10 schools will be selected to represent the state in the zonal level exhibition to be held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata. The inaugural session which was hosted by Dr. Mahendra Tamang, Assistant Professor, SCERT ended with vote of thanks by Shri Suraj Bir Singh, Joint Director, SCERT. The exhibition is coordinated by Shri Parijit Sutradhar, Assistant Professor, SCERT and State Co-ordinator, SLSMEE. The exhibition will end on 19th November 2022.
