South Africa go 1–0 up after 30-run win in Kolkata Test

South Africa pulled off a memorable 30-run victory over India on Day 3 of the first Test at Eden Gardens. Defending a small target of 124, the visitors’ spinners Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj delivered under pressure to bowl India out for 93.

India had earlier posted 189 in the first innings, but lost captain Shubman Gill to a neck injury. South Africa replied with 159 and later added 153 in their second innings, helped by a fighting 55* from skipper Temba Bavuma — the highest score of the match.

Chasing a modest target, India struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite a brief counterattack from Axar Patel, the hosts fell short.

With the win, South Africa take a 1–0 lead in the two-match series. The next Test begins in Guwahati on Saturday.
