Tension sprouts at first open house program at NBU

Tension sprouted at North Bengal University after it held its first ever open house for multi- communication amongst the university and it's stakeholders on Wednesday.

The first ever open house witnessed more than eight hundred people including students, research scholars, teachers, officers, alumni and locals participants at Rabindra bhanu manch in the university today. However, after the first hour of the program the issue of privatization of university land caused  trouble. The entire program collapsed within an hour of the start of the House. The protesters demanded the open house to be held outside. Furthermore the protesters claimed that the protest sparked as someone was not liked during the questioning.

Naxalbari Matigara MLA  Anandmoy Barman said that the burning issue of North Bengal University is the plan to plot 15 bighas of the university's land and hand it over to private companies.

"There is a  conspiracy to start five star hotel in the name of hotel management on that land. But the issues were not discussed in the open house today and other issues were discussed so the protest", said Burman.

Vice-Chancellor of North Bengal University Omprakash Mishra said they received a good response for the first ever open house and would continue with it.

" This is the first university in the country to hold an open house. The program was held to discuss various issues to raise the university standards. In the first phase, there was an opening concert and an open house speech followed by questions to the registrar from Professor Pranab Ghosh. However, some outsider  attempted to disrupt the proceedings. They said that  the  open house should be held in an open place.  From now on, open houses will not be limited in the university. Open house will be held in 34 departments of the university. Besides, I will open houses in various administrative departments and research centers", said Mishra.
