Siliguri: Three arrested, robbery plan foiled by police

Police of New Jalpaiguri Police Station foiled a major robbery plan late Monday night.

Around 1:30 am, police received secret information that a group of 10 to 12 miscreants had gathered in the Kashmir Colony area under NJP police station. They were allegedly planning a robbery.

Police quickly reached the spot and carried out a raid. Taking advantage of the darkness, some of the suspects managed to escape. However, three persons were caught on the spot.

The arrested have been identified as MD Shakil, Suman Sarkar and Pawan Kumar Singh. Sharp weapons were recovered from them. Police said the accused are residents of different parts of Siliguri and were previously involved in several criminal cases.

A case has been registered against them. They will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday. Police have launched a search to catch the other accused who fled.
