Two boys from ethnic tribes of North Bengal on historic Cycle Yatra from Siliguri to Kedarnath to raise awareness on Drug Addiction

Two youths, Saroj Saibo of Mech and Manik Paharia from Rajbonshi tribes have started thier historic 'Cycle Yatra' from Siliguri to Kedarnath on Sunday morning to raise awareness on drug addiction. 


Both will aware people they find on their ways on drug addiction while covering the distance roughly 19 thousand kilometers.


On Sunday hundreds of people belonging to Rajbonshi and Mech communities including local residents gave blessings by offering garland, Khadas and putting Tika on forehead before peddling a month long journey. 


The two youths from lower middle class family after seeing the pathetic scenes of thier drug addicted inmates and other youths have thought of staring an awareness programme.


Saroj said, "We never used drugs and urge others also to quit the habit. It will not only ruin the family and social culture but also end the life. We will aware all aged people especially youth that we find during our journey."


According to Manik North Bengal is becoming hub for drug peddlers and numbers of drug users is alarmingly increasing day-to-day. 


We are starting our cycle yatra today and our main mission is about increasing awareness on drug addiction and its adverse effect on family, society and health. 


Rajan Kafley a social worker from Matigara has organised and arranged all requirements for the youths from Siliguri to complete the journey. 


Rajan said, "Darjeeling is famous for Tea, Toy Train and Tourism but soon will be known for drug addiction if initiative to stop the menace is not started as earliest. To stop drug addiction not only police and government but individual can also come forward through an awareness programmes.
