Communal harmony and brotherhood alone can fight terrorism properly, efectively and successfully.

That ia what speakers during a panel discussion on the topic, "Is terrorism the biggest threat to Indian polity?," felt at the Siliguri Model High School today.

Inagurating the discussion, which was organised by the school at its campus in Ranidanga near Siliguri, a senior surgeon of north Bengal Dr Kaushik Bhattacharya said that terrorism was as old as civilisation itself and the citizens of the country should not fall in the trap of the divisive forces, who are out to divide us on caste and communal lines.

Retired army colonel, Mr Rakesh Bali, who cautioned the students present at the programme against falling into the trap of communal forces, said that they should be very careful and vigilant in what they do as responsible future citizen of the country, including their decisions to forward any message or post in the social media.

Noted political analyst Mr Parag Biswas said that corruption, hypocrisy, iliteracy, population explosion and lack of awareness and a sense of responsibility among the general masses were bigger threats than terrorism and the root causes of militancy and fissiparous tendencies in the country.

The principal of the school, Dr SS Agarwal, who dwelt at length on the need to foster friendship and fraternity among the various sections and communities of the country, said that it was the duty of every Indian to love their follow citizens and ensure that the unity and integrity of the nation was never compromised. 

The programme was jointly hosted by the vice-principal of the school Mrs Shikha Banik and Sr PGT Mrs. Mohini Thapa
