Government staffs of Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat (UBGP) have started Pen Down after alleged threatening and vandalizing government property by gram panchayat member of Trinamool Congress.

Pema Doma Bhutia, secretary of Panchayat alleged that she was threatened by Anamik Joardar, member of Upper Bagdogra and broke her table after denial of issuing the residential certificate without valid documents. 

According to Bhutia, Anamik asked residential certificate on 2nd May for a person whose house tax was due. “I asked him to furnish the tax clearance paper but went away with anger. Later I received a call from Trinamool Congress leader and I replied that if Pradhan allows I can provide. Then I was ordered by Panchayat Pradhan Sanjib Sinha to issue the certificate on emergency basis. The episode was closed but on Monday (8th May) Anamik came with the papers, threw on my face and broke the glass and the table threatening to make my posting at Chopra,” said Bhutia.

When asked to Pradhan Sanjib Sinha he said that he was on leave so have no idea on the issue. He informed that he will soon call a meeting among members to discuss on the issue but condemned for damaging the property by whosoever it may be.

Meanwhile Anamik denied the allegations and said that the table glass was broken when secretary hit it with the water bottle.
“If anyone doesn’t work for the betterment of the people he or she must be sent to hell. According to Panchayat rule and instruction of BDO it is not mandatory to provide tax papers for residential certificate,” said Anamik.
He also said that if he is guilty he is ready to go to behind the bars.
