In a tussle over a seat, passenger succumbed to bullet injuries in North east express.

In a tussle over a seat at the general coach  compartment of a down North east express (Anandvihar - Kamakhya ) a 40 year-old passenger lost his life  with his own licensed gun on Monday evening. Railway officials said a forensic investigation has been initiated. 

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Singh Parmar, a resident of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh. Parmar retired as Naik from Brigade of the Guards in June 2016. With his arrest GRP and RPF have claimed to seized one .32” bore pistol Licensed Pistol with 03 Empty Cartridges 7.65mm as well as one I-Card from his possession.

According to the railway officials, on arrival of 12505 Dn North East Exp at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station at about 8:10 pm on Monday, passenger informed that an unidentified person accidentally opened fire on himself in the General Coach while crossing the Ambari Falakata station. Due to the incident the passenger died on the spot. Further, GRP & RPF attended the deceased and rushed him to the railway hospital where he was declared brought dead. The deceased was then sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post -mortem. 

Following the incident the general coach was detached as per requisition of GRP and the train had suffered a detention for 3 Hours and 17 minutes at New Jalpaiguri station, said the officials. 

According to the sources, the deceased was sleeping at the upper berth of the general coach . At that time some passengers walked him up and asked him to shift a bit so that they can place their luggage there. However, they engaged in a scuffle and three rounds were fired out of which one bullet hit his stomach and the other bullet his his thigh while another shot was a blank fire. 

Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Siliguri, S Selvamurugan said “ It wan an accident. We have recovered a licensed pistol from the deceased. GRPS/NJP has detained 07 passengers of this coach for enquiry. A forensic team will investigate the matter”.
