Man Arrested for Smuggling 40 Buffaloes in Phansidewa
In a significant breakthrough, the Bidhannagar Investigation Centre police arrested one person in connection with the smuggling of buffaloes in a container truck. The driver, Mohammad Haider (36), a resident of Uttarakhand, was arrested.
The arrest followed a raid at the Muraliganj check-post in the Phansidewa block, where the vehicle was stopped and 40 buffaloes were recovered. The driver was unable to provide valid documentation for the buffaloes and was subsequently arrested. The police revealed that the buffaloes were being illegally transported from Bihar to Assam.
On Monday, Haider was presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court, and an investigation is underway to determine if others were involved in the smuggling operation.
