PHE Faces Opposition While Installing Water Tank at ISKCON Road in Siliguri

Siliguri, November 21, 2024: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department officials faced opposition from local residents and school staff while trying to install a water tank on the grounds of Ektiasal Tileswari Adhikary High School on ISKCON Road. The project, part of a water supply initiative, met resistance during a site visit by officials on Thursday.

Residents and school teachers immediately objected, arguing that the tank should not be placed on the school grounds. They highlighted that the proposed location is the main entrance to the school and suggested finding another site to avoid disrupting access.

School authorities explained that the land had been donated for educational purposes and is used by students for sports. They also raised concerns that the project might lead to the removal of trees on the property.

In response, PHE officials assured the community that the project was approved by the District Magistrate. They promised that only a small section of the field would be used for the water tank and that efforts would be made to protect the environment. To ease the school's concerns, they also pledged to build a proper road to maintain smooth access for students.
