Police officer injured after a conman posing as Deputy Collector of Bihar fired a shot
SILIGURI
A conman posing as Deputy Collector of Bihar fired a shot at police officer and also sustained bullet injuries after a scuffle between the police and him. The police have arrested the accused and is currently undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
The accused has been identified as Raj Panday, a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar. The accused has sustained a bullet shot on his thigh. With his arrest police claimed to have seized a point 32 pistol from his possession and a vehicle . While the injured police officer has been identified as Rabindra Nath Sarkar, sub -inspector of Pradhan Nagar police station. Sarkar is undergoing treatment at a private health facility in Matigara. Sarkar has sustained bullet injury on his leg. Police said the conditions of both the injured are stable.
Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that the accused Raj Pandey himself has accepted that he is not the Deputy Collector. Many complaints of extortion and illegal activities are registered against him in Pradhan Nagar police station. Investigations have been initiated to trace the exact sequence of events.
