Police Seize Hundreds of Pigeons Smuggled in Rice Truck During Siliguri Search.
Police in Fulbari, Siliguri, recently discovered hundreds of pigeons hidden in sacks on a truck carrying rice. During a routine search, officers noticed some unusual movement among the sacks. This led them to stop the vehicle, where they found six large sacks filled with pigeons.
The two men transporting the pigeons, identified as Mohammad Firodos and Akhtar Hossain, explained they were moving the birds from Karandighi. However, they lacked the required livestock permit, which led to their arrest for violating transport regulations.
The NJP police station immediately contacted the forest department, and officials from the Dabgram division quickly arrived to handle the situation. The pigeons and the two detained individuals were handed over to forest officials, who stated they would conduct further questioning and determine the next steps.
