Sikkim Joins Hornbill Festival 2024 as Partner State
Gangtok, November 29: Sikkim has officially become the Partner State for the Hornbill Festival 2024, marking a significant cultural collaboration with Nagaland. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang ceremonially flagged off the Sikkimese delegation today at Ridge Park, along with a car and bike rally heading to the festival venue in Kisama Village, Nagaland.
The Hornbill Festival is an annual event aimed at preserving and promoting the traditions of the Naga tribes. Sikkim’s partnership this year showcases the strong bond among northeastern states and provides a platform to highlight Sikkimese culture and heritage.
The Sikkimese delegation, traveling under the theme "50 Years of Statehood," includes 144 members. It comprises self-help groups (SHGs), bikers, car rally participants, media personnel, and officials from departments like Information and Public Relations, Tourism, Culture, and Commerce and Industries. Social organizations have also joined the team.
Addressing the delegation, the Chief Minister encouraged them to represent Sikkim with pride and professionalism. “This partnership reflects the shared cultural richness of the northeast and promotes unity among our states. I wish everyone a safe journey and successful participation in the festival,” he said.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of being self-reliant and acting as hosts rather than guests during the event. He urged the delegation to bring back valuable experiences and ideas from Nagaland that could benefit Sikkim in the future.
Key dignitaries present at the flag-off included Tourism Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia, MLA Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, and several senior officials from various departments.
The Hornbill Festival, scheduled from December 1 to December 10, 2024, is expected to strengthen the cultural ties among northeastern states and celebrate the region’s rich diversity.
