Siliguri Police Officer Suspended Over Alleged Drunk Misconduct with Minors
Tania Roy, a woman police officer in Siliguri, has been suspended after a viral video reportedly showed her drunk and assaulting two minors. The incident took place on Wednesday evening near Sri Guru Vidya Mandir School in Ward No. 46.
Witnesses say Roy, on duty with the pink mobile patrol unit dedicated to women’s safety, exited her patrol van and physically assaulted the minors. Shocked bystanders quickly gathered around the patrol vehicle, protesting her actions. Shortly after, Roy drove away from the scene.
The Siliguri Police Commissionerate responded swiftly, suspending Roy from her role in the pink mobile unit. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Biswa Chand Thakur confirmed her suspension. Roy had been promoted from constable at Pradhan Nagar police station to Lady Assistant Sub-Inspector (LASI) only a few months ago.
The pink mobile patrol service, introduced by Commissioner C. Sudhakar, operates across the east and west zones of Siliguri to enhance women’s safety. Following the incident, the Police Commissioner reminded all officers of the importance of respectful and proper conduct with the public.
