Tutul Das, a Trinamool Congress member, was kidnapped at gunpoint on Sunday while sitting in his shop in Puratan Dakbangla. The kidnappers took him to Jharkhand and made videos of him. They also stole his phone and SIM card. They then called his wife, Aparna Das, and demanded Rs. 40 lakh as ransom. When she couldn't pay, they forced him to sign a document for the money. Thanks to quick action by local Trinamool leader Shahidul Haque, Tutul Das was rescued. The police are investigating the case, and there are concerns about security in the area.
